5 Tips to “Spring Clean” Your Dental Routine

With summer just around the corner, you might have your sights set on some house projects, like organizing your pantry, cleaning out your garage, and washing your patio cushion covers. While you’re in spring cleaning mode, don’t forget about your oral hygiene regimen. After all, can you remember the last time you cleaned your toothbrush holder? If the answer is “no,” then here are some tips to “spring clean” your dental routine!

1. Wipe Down Your Bathroom Counter

For many people, wiping down their bathroom counter is something they do every week or every other week. That said, it’s a good idea to give this area a bit of a deeper clean and focus on the areas that are sometimes missed, like the area behind your faucet. That way, you have a nice, clean foundation to start with.

2. Clean Your Toothbrush Holder

At a glance, your toothbrush holder may look relatively clean. Upon closer inspection, however, you might notice that toothpaste, spit, and other gunk has collected on the surface or at the bottom of the container. So, it’s worth taking the time to give it a good clean with some soap and water!

3. Replace Your Toothbrush

Did you know that you’re supposed to replace your toothbrush (or toothbrush head) every quarter? If it’s been longer than that since you got a new one, use this as a reminder to do so. In fact, this is a great time to consider upgrading your toothbrush to an electric one if you still use a manual one!

4. Throw Away Any Expired Products

Over the years, you may have accumulated an excess of products in your medicine cabinet or in the drawers under your bathroom sink. If that’s the case for you, then dedicate some time to throwing away expired toothpaste, mouthwash, and the like. It’s also a good idea to take notes of what you need backups of, like toothbrush heads, so you’re never left in a pinch!

5. Schedule Your Next Dental Checkup

Remember, even if you are diligent about brushing and flossing your teeth, it’s possible for plaque and food particles to get left behind. That’s why scheduling your next dental checkup and teeth cleaning should be a part of your spring cleaning to-do list!
